Whew

That went by fast. Now I'm back in Norman and it's time to work my rear end off!

I got a letter in the mail saying that I didn't get the measurements scholarship like I was expecting. I was hoping to use it for funding for my capstone that I start in the spring. Guess that won't be happening. :-/ However, my grades this past semester were my best ever and I should be on the Dean's honor roll. Very happy times. And my credit card company sent me a free $25 Best Buy gift card. Verrry nice as well! So for every bad, there is a good. And in a few days, I should be expecting a few packages from home with my christmas stuff that wouldn't fit in my baggage (mostly books).

On a final note, I believe the next wave of engagements is taking form. *sigh* Maybe there will be some good in that area of my life as well. haha....riiight

Goodnight!

Luke

Last night at our small group gathering, I also realized something I didn't know before: I've never actually read Luke. Our leader read passages from the beginning of the book, and they were completely foreign to me! I'm in the process of reading it now and I just can't believe I've never read this. I am glad to be doing so now! Some things baffle me though, like the importance of John the Baptist. Maybe that comes from some OT passage that I'm not aware of (please let me know if it is!)

Xmas

I had a really great time with my small group tonight. We were supposed to go caroling, but due to the weather, we decided to just stay around the house and sing and talk about Christmas. Even with a severely out of tune piano, it was a blast.

We discussed what it meant for God to become man. I've always thought of it as God being very humble, but it sank in a little deeper tonight. He came as a child, just as we all do. An innocent, adorable child. But how long do WE stay humble and innocent? It's not long before we are craving attention for ourselves or are cranky because of the situation we are in. This is even neglecting the fact that we are born WITH sin. Christ was never like that! He was humble and serving and selfless his entire life. I think that is amazing.

After the main group thing, I talked to our leader/church elder. I've been struggling a lot lately with understanding Christmas. I know that there is the cultural/traditional "Christmas" that nearly everyone celebrates, but is that really Christmas? It's supposed to be a celebration centered on Christ's birth. There are different celebrations that go on at the same time. They have appeared to combine with Christmas for what seems to be a "multicultural" holiday. For this reason, should we call it Christmas? I really love the tradition of Christmas - the tree, the lights, giving presents, the food! - but I don't want that to be all it is about, and I also want those things to be meaningful. My dad and I used to put up and decorate our tree, along with any lights and such. It was a great bonding experience. Now that I can't have that, when I do those things, I reflect on the great times with my dad. But I also want to keep in mind the christian (true meaning) of Christmas - that Christ came here and was humble and obedient and loving to everyone. It really is a wonderful thing that he would do something like that.

In addition, he taught me a LOT on how we can use things like this to teach our children how to be obedient and loving (to God and to others.) Obviously, I don't have children, but the same idea applies now. A lot of little things can teach respect and honor - two things I definitely didn't learn as I was growing up.

Overall, tonight was very educational and I am so grateful that it happened. If anyone has any questions or whatever, feel free to ask!! I will be more than happy to explain more. :-)

Alles, guten nacht

NO

Oh the irony...

I'm kind of upset with Bush now. $3.1 million to go to rebuilding the levy system of New Orleans. That is insane. I understand that Hurricane Katrina was a big deal, but I don't understand why a whole new levy system is being built. I can understand cleaning up the city. I'm all for that. But let nature do its thing. People who have houses that are built on the edges of cliffs don't ask to have the cliff rebuilt whenever their house falls into the ocean. They are just as aware of the dangers as the people in New Orleans were of their hurricane danger.

If they would rebuild the levy system in a useful manner, then it might be worth it. But it won't, so why not use this "money" for something else? Don't we have a national debt to pay?

Yesterday

Friday was such a strange day. It started off with me being ~40 minutes late to work because my car wouldn't de-ice (it was at 7am). I went to work and German and then to get my english papers. Good news with that. It put me in a great mood. So I went home at lunchtime as normal. Then I found out I am the only person in the spring Capstone 1 class, so we arranged a different time to meet and it means I don't have to have a partner!!! :-D

There was pizza to be had at Sarkeys, so I asked Christy to get me some in exchange for a Dr. Pepper from Sonic. All is well. As I'm driving on my way to Sonic, I noticed my car was pulling to the right. I know my alignment is off, but I had to hold the wheel at a 45 degree angle to go straight. After ordering/paying at Sonic, I checked my front passenger tire. Yeah... totally flat. I'm pretty sure it got punctured when I first left that morning by ice that had built up around it overnight. I had to wait for my drinks. When the carhop brought them, she spilled one of them on my arm. Nice. I assumed she'd offer to get a napkin or something. Nope. Had to ask her myself. My shirt was stained a little, but oh well.

My tires are under warranty at Walmart, and I was near it, so I drove there, hoping it would be quick since it was the middle of the day. Well, apparantly everyone decided to get an oil change at that exact time. It would have been at least two hours before they could get to me, so I went to another place. They did it quickly, but I had to pay for it. Thankfully, yesterday was payday so I could actually do so.

I went to Sarkeys and got my pizza and delivered the drinks. Now it was time to go to see Christmas lights in Broken Arrow. There was a fountain and it was frozen AND it had duckies!!! It was so great. I took a ton of pictures. Here are a few for the post:

Fun times!! Though I'm still kinda sick. Even after finishing my prescription, I *still* have tonsilitis. Thankfully, my throat doesn't actually hurt. I don't know if I should go back to the doctor or what. He said he wanted to do a mono test if I wasn't better. *Sigh*. I don't know how I could have that anyway. Doesn't make sense.

Sick

This is getting ridiculous. I've had tonsilitis for over two and a half weeks now. I went to the doctor last monday and he put me on an antibiotic and a sinus medicine. I'm nearly out of medicine and the tonsilitis is still active in my throat. They did a strep test on me and I assume it came back negative since I haven't been notified. The doctor said that if I was still having problems that I would need to go back for a mono test. I'm pretty sure I don't have that, so I don't think it would be worth going back just for that.

Then to make things worse.. I gave myself some kind of food sickness last night. Don't ever mix lemon pepper fish and easy mac! It doesn't taste too great coming back up. Trust me. It's been over 24 hours since I ate that and I'm still nauseous. Not good.

On top of all this, the medication combined with lack of sleep and exercise and stress has made me soooo tired all the time. Thank goodness break is coming soon. I need good rest. I was sick during thanksgiving break, so that didn't do any good.

At least finals week will be nice and stress free. Two take home finals, a portfolio to turn in, and a german final. Shouldn't be too bad. Let's see how it goes!
