Reserves
Today I had another meeting - this time with an Air Force Reserves Recruiter. All of the questions I had been mulling over were answered. I am still trying to decide about whether or not I should be considering it. There are a lot of issues I am trying to weigh out.A great benefit for joining now is the GI Bill, which will pay for my last year of school. However, I would have to take a semester off in order to go to Tech School, which would put me an additional year behind because of how the meteorology program works. I suppose that wouldn't be so bad, especially being paid for it and learning from it as well. But I'm sooo close to being done.
I think it would be great to join and apply to OTS after graduating with my BS, though that would be May 2008. It's kind of funny because he said the commitment for the Reserves is 6 years, but could be shortened by attending OTS, which would result in a 4 year commitment from there.
In the end, it doesn't seem smart to join until after I have graduated. That way I will have more time to think about it and see where I will be after that point. And I would also be better prepared for it.

Wrist
I have this weird bump on my wrist that started hurting yesterday. This was after I played tennis the previous evening. It only hurts when I actually use my wrist, so that is a problem when I have to be at a computer all day and drive and stuff like that. I've had this thing pop-up before which makes me assume it should go away soon. The information I found on the internet said that it is a 'ganglion cyst': basically, a cyst that forms after a ligament/tendon has been damaged. To me, it sounds like something out of Star Trek ("The Ganglions are after us again!"). Regardless, it's annoying. I hope it goes away fast.

The Meeting
Well, today I had my meeting with ATSC. The two I met with were incredible. They were very knowledgeable and experienced and really great to talk to.I first met with Vicki. She told me about the background of the company and some of the proposals they have submitted. She said they will know something around October about what will be available.
Next I met with Lynn. He was very intriguing. He explained more of the details of the projects and described his background. He is from Lindsay - how funny! The projects he described were for:
- Site maintenance in Quadralein
- Building a plane from scratch and incorporating weather instrumentation
- Other site maintenance.
Oooooo... AND today I also won an Oklahoma Mesonet Pocket Knife! What a great day! :-)

Judges 19
If you get a chance, read this passage. I have been reading through the Old Testament and what I read last night included Judges 19. Normally when I am reading, I am tired because of long days. I had to reread the passage several times to make sure I was reading it correctly. After reading it, I was afraid I'd have nightmares!Out of all of the books of the Bible, I think Judges has been my favorite so far. And no, I don't like it just because it's graphic. It seems to be fearless of displaying sin and the workings of God, moreso than the rest of the Bible. I love it.
If you are more of a visual learner (and aren't easily offended), this webpage might better suit you.

Rogue Storm
I was just sitting here in my apartment and heard a slight boom. I looked out my window and noticed that my car was lit up from the east (it was sunset.) I leaned a little further to see part of a decent looking cloud. So I decided that I might as well take pics of it. I went outside and found this little bugger:
Sorry about the graininess... I had my ISO at 1600 and didn't realize it until the cool shots were already gone.
Then it decided to die because its friend, the sun, went away. It collapsed into a big gust of air.
Noodling
If you're going to be all redneck and have a noodling festival with prizes/awards, the presenters should at least make the plaques correct!
Oh well... that just shows what a Pauls Valley education will get you...

Hakuna Matata
Maybe I won't have to worry about leaving Norman afterall: next week, I have a pseudo-interview with ATSC, the company I mentioned before. She said the timing of my graduation and their project start date match up perfectly. YAY! Now I just need to do my best at impressing them at our meeting and make them sure that I will be the best for the job. I don't think that will be hard. :-)Sunday, July 09, 2006
From Forgiven to Forgiving
The title is the same as the book we are going through in my church small group. The book works through how we are to treat forgiveness and the process of true forgiveness. I've definitely had my share of homework with this topic. It's really hard to forgive those that are bitter and hold grudges, especially when that attitude is so easy to mimic in my own actions. But it's silly to act in that manner because in the end it is all insignificant. There are much more important things on which to spend time.I absolutely love my group. They have helped me through so much and I can't imagine life without it. It has allowed me to see how these other people truly are and it exposes who I really am to them. It's amazing because whenever I ask for advice, they know me well enough to be able to help me a lot. Maybe a lot of people have experienced this a lot with other close knit groups of friends or family, but this is the first I've allowed people to really know me.
I've been with this group about 2 (or 3... can't remember) years now. I thank God for these people and it's this intimacy that has built up that makes me never want to leave Norman.

Kaboom!
I really love the 4th of July. Fireworks. Patriotism. People. Hot weather. Good food! It's an all-around amazing time. In Oklahoma, the culture isn't incredibly patriotic like the Northeast, but it is doable.Next year, I hope to be able to make the Tinker Air Show. I've been dying to go to that the entire time I've lived in Oklahoma and never have. I miss air shows! I wish there were more around here. I used to love seeing the Blue Angels when I lived in Maryland basically from the time I was born. That was the beginning of a life of a love of airplanes and patriotism. Why haven't I joined the Air Force yet?
