Reserves

Today I had another meeting - this time with an Air Force Reserves Recruiter. All of the questions I had been mulling over were answered. I am still trying to decide about whether or not I should be considering it. There are a lot of issues I am trying to weigh out.

A great benefit for joining now is the GI Bill, which will pay for my last year of school. However, I would have to take a semester off in order to go to Tech School, which would put me an additional year behind because of how the meteorology program works. I suppose that wouldn't be so bad, especially being paid for it and learning from it as well. But I'm sooo close to being done.

I think it would be great to join and apply to OTS after graduating with my BS, though that would be May 2008. It's kind of funny because he said the commitment for the Reserves is 6 years, but could be shortened by attending OTS, which would result in a 4 year commitment from there.

In the end, it doesn't seem smart to join until after I have graduated. That way I will have more time to think about it and see where I will be after that point. And I would also be better prepared for it.
