Wishin' and Hopin' and Plannin' and Dreamin'

Take a moment to think of how many times you sit there thinking "Man, I really wish I could get this dynamics problem finished before 2am," or "I hope that a close parking space opens up." When you do finish that problem early or a car pulls out of a parking spot, do you take credit yourself for wishing/hoping hard enough? Or do you thank God for granting what you asked? Or do you even consider that asking something of God?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. It seems that we use those words in place of prayerfully asking God for the matter, even if it is just a parking space. It is so easy to take this mindset and it is really sad! I think this would be considered one of our "sophisticated sins." It seems so innocent, but essentially it is really saying that we have control of everything.

I know that at least one of you out there will say that I am crazy and that I am taking things waaaay too literally. Maybe I am, but this is what makes sense right now. Feel free to comment otherwise.
