Kentucky Drought
While Oklahoma is experiencing an extremely moist year, Kentucky is being hit hard by one of the worst droughts on record. My friend and I went out drought chasing a few weekends ago to get a better view of how the drought is impacting the region.

Barren River

Ripley :-)

A very sad looking cornfield. When I moved here in June, this field was green.

Cows in a field.

Hay bales in a field. This might not look bad, but the hay crop this season greatly underproduced.

This is brightleaf tobacco. It's supposed to be yellow, but closer investigation proved that it was stressed just as the other crops. We also came across soybean crop that looked very green and leafy, but was not producing any soybeans.

More sad looking corn crop, with a house that looks like it is buried in the crop.

Corn rows at the WKU farm.

The experimental Kentucky Mesonet station (FARM) at the WKU Farm.

Cows at a pond that has decreased greatly in depth.

Sign and flagpole at the Woodburn Fire Department. Took a picture of this mostly for the record of the sign, but then later realized the irony in the name of the station.

This was on the other side of the street from the Woodburn Fire Department. I had to take a picture of it. :-)
