"Expelled" expelled?

I received the June issue of Scientific American in the mail and began reading it the other day. One of the short editorials in the front was discussing "Expelled," a movie about intelligent design vs. evolution (essentially). The magazine basically agrees that the scientific community cannot say that intelligent design exists and that the movie/Ben Stein does a poor job of proving its point due to the lack of scientific evidence and that Stein is just an old actor/tv show host.

But.. hmm. I seem to remember there was this guy who wrote a book and made a movie about global warming, and I don't think he was a scientist. In fact, he was a political figure. Even a vice president. With a government degree. Where's the science in that?

Come on, why is Al Gore more credible than Ben Stein? Is it simply because Stein is not representing the "scientific" side of the argument? If he argued for evolution over I.D, I wonder if Scientific American would have even bothered with their article about the untruths of the movie.
